The past year has been one of big changes, and I am excited to share my top 10 posts of 2018, as well as my 2019 word of the year!
At the start of the year, I was still blogging under my previous blog name, A Welder’s Wife. The topics discussed focused heavily on the minimalist lifestyle.
However, I felt the pull to share more about homesteading, so I rebranded to The Tannehill Homestead.
It was the scariest thing I have done with my blog to date. I feared that the majority of you would leave me, but the good news is that you didn’t! In fact, you cheered me on as we went through this change together.
Since the rebrand, we have discussed a lot of fun things related to homesteading, simple living, and some good old decluttering.
Top 10 Posts of 2018
I’m really excited to share with you my top 10 posts of 2018! We are going to start with number ten and work our way to number one. Let’s get to it!
10 // 39 Ways to Cut Expenses out of Your Budget
This was one of my favorite posts to write this past year! When you get outside of the normal list of things you should cut from your budget, you really dive into some creative little money suckers that you don’t need.
If you haven’t read this post, please be sure to do so if you need to give your budget a little bit of a declutter.
9 // Birthday Bucket List
I love sharing my birthday bucket lists with you! It is fun to see what ideas you find interesting and the lists you create and share with me!
Living each year with as much intention as possible helps you not look so much at the age you are turning but more so at how you can make it your best year yet!

8 // Fast Declutter Tips When You Have No Time
This comes as no surprise for being on the list. It seems that we all live “busy” lives, so getting the home clutter-free quickly is a must.
These tips are also great for just keeping your home tidy on a regular basis.
7 // The Art of Slow Living – Farming with Annemarie
I am so glad this post ended up on this list because it was such an eye-opening post. Annemarie is a special young woman who is doing unheard-of things within my local community.
She looks at farming in a way that I hope all industrial farming starts to look at again and soon.
6 // The Truth About Anxiety, Even If You’re A Minimalist
This post was written from a state of brokenness and desperation for a happier life. The spark was a Facebook post I read that hit the nail on the head for my battle with anxiety.
If you struggle with anxiety or depression, I highly encourage you to read this post.
5 // 30 Ways to Save Money on Your Utilities
I am a bit of a research junkie. This post came about because I think educating yourself on having a more efficient home is important. It not only saves you money but also the environment.
4 // Psychology of Clutter
This is a post written by Jennifer Van Winkle. I love her approach to clutter and the thoughts that spawned after reading her post. It definitely allows you to see your clutter in a different way.
3 // How I Started My Zero Waste Journey + 5 Ways You Can Get Started Today
Another amazing guest post that I knew would do well with this community. Living more sustainably is consistently one of my goals for my homestead, and I feel like it is yours too!
2 // How to Declutter Your Home Fast
Similar to the fast decluttering post further up the list, this post is specifically for when you need to declutter for unexpected guests.
I’ll be honest, I sometimes have my husband pose a distraction so that I can get our home clutter-free for guests. It only takes a few minutes to tackle, too!
1 // Minimalist Cleaning Routine
While I am not surprised to see this one on the list [because it is a great cleaning routine post], I am surprised to see it at the top of the list. Routines are something I will be diving into more in 2019, so keep an eye out for those!
What do you think of the post in the top 10 posts for 2018? I am personally surprised by it, but I think looking back through these is important.
First, if you missed them, you now have a chance to read community-winning posts!
Second, it allows me to see what posts you prefer to read to gain inspiration or motivation to live your best life. I’m honestly going back to the drawing board with my post ideas that will start off our new year because of the inspiration I get from this post.
My Word for 2019
One thing I have learned about having a focus word for a year is that it keeps you centered. You get the chance to ask yourself if what you are doing reflects your focus for the year.
A quick example is that my word for 2018 was INTENTION. I led the year with intention, purpose, and continual focus. This word was my saving grace for 2018 and the reason we are stepping into 2019 with an amazing path ahead of us.
It also gave me more purpose for my marriage, family, and friendships, which I feel is something we all need to keep a priority.
So are you ready to see what my work for 2019 is?
Good! Because I am finally ready to share it with you!
EMERGE
For me, emerge is all about stepping into the person you dream of becoming. This will be a year of no excuses, pursuing the best advancement toward my dream life, and helping you do the same.
Some key areas of focus that I believe will improve through this are:
- My relationship with my husband. I want to be a better wife for him. I feel that when we prioritize our marriage or closest relationship, everything around us flourishes. In my humble opinion, feeling and being loved provides a greater chance at being happy, succeeding with your goals, and comfort in knowing there is someone in your corner at all times.
- My mental health. Did you know that your mind is your own worst enemy? Well, I am no longer allowing it to tell me to downsize the value and impact I am supposed to have in this world. My purpose for living is far too great for my mind to tell me otherwise. THE SAME GOES FOR YOU, TOO!
- My online impact. There are so many things I want to share with you, create for you, and help you with this year. Some are already being created, but several have been tucked away, waiting for the right time. Of course, we all know the right time for something is yesterday, and the second-best time for something is today. So I am pledging to get it done!
- My friendships. I’ll admit that I use the excuse of being an introvert a little too much. This year, I am going to step outside of my comfort zone and find my local tribe of ladies. I have no idea where they may be, but I am going to start putting myself in situations where it is easier to find them.

Our word for this year is Less. Less = More. Less eating out, more eating in. Less debt, more money. Less new, more using the old or repairing the old. It’s all about Less for us.
Erin | The Tannehill Homestead says
I love that, Rebecca! You’re creating a new balance for your life with this approach, too! Most of the time when you think of less, you think of removing things completely from your life and the scarcity mindset really hits hard. But with replacing less of this with more of that, your mind doesn’t have a chance to do that. Kudos to you! I’m really impressed!

How awesome is that! I have the same word for this year, and I just discovered your blog a couple of days ago! Have an awesome 2019!
Erin | The Tannehill Homestead says
Ashley, that has to be fate! You are the first person I know that I share that word of the year with so far. Hope you have an amazing year!
