For the past few years, I have made a great effort towards a more sustainable lifestyle, including choosing to gift sustainable gifts for everyone on my list.
If you’re like me, you want to provide everyone with easy sustainable swaps that they may not make on their own. It’s a fun way to say I care about you and the environment.
It can also be difficult to find quality sustainable gifts, so I am stepping in to make sure you don’t have to stress over it.
The items within this gift guide are things I use all around the house, and have saved me tons of money and waste and have added to the quality of life I live.
I cannot help but share these things during the holidays, wedding showers, baby showers, etc. Because I believe everyone needs to know how to live more sustainably.

Juniperseed Mercantile was my first introduction to living more sustainably. I wanted to replace my cotton pads with reusable cotton rounds.
That was 3 years ago and my cotton rounds still look brand new! I’m sure they will last me several more years, too!

Helping your friend/family member with this starting point can possibly lead them into many more swaps around the home. At least it has for me and my friends.
Shampoo and Conditioner Bars //
If you are anything like me, you hate the packaging of store-bought shampoos and conditioners. The plastic wrapping is enough for me to wish I didn’t need it. This is when shampoo and conditioner bars come in handy.
These Stone River Soaps are made of natural ingredients and come in very little packaging. When you are done with it, there isn’t anything to throw away, which I love! They take up little space in the shower, too!
They take a little to get used to but are a great option compared to conventional shampoos and conditioners!
Automatic Dishwasher Powder//
Dishwashing detergents contain so many harmful chemicals, as most conventional cleaners do. However, Mama Suds offers a great alternative to this.
This powder is safe for septic systems and effective in cleaning your dishes without scratching them in the process.
Toilet Bombs Cleaning Tabs //
I am in love with this swap because I hate conventional toilet bowl cleaners. I also hate having to clean the toilet bowl, but that’s beside the point.
These toilet bombs are a lot of fun to use, in my opinion. They are also pretty versatile in their uses.
You can use them in the toilet bowl, toilet tank, for a diaper pail, or even to clean your washing machine! A great option for sustainable gifts, especially for young adults!
Dryer Balls //
Dryer balls are a great alternative to dryer sheets. They work 100 times better too! They cut down your drying time by a good bit, leave your clothes softer and fluffier, and save you money!
Dryer balls last around 1,000 loads, so you’re really saving some money!
Pair a set of these dryer balls with a Lavender Essential Oil, and it creates the perfect “Thinking of You” gift.
Reusable Produce Bags //
Do plastic produce bags annoy you like they do me? Aside from being unnecessary for most produce, they are so thin and flimsy, so you couldn’t get multiple uses out of them if you wanted.
Having these reusable produce bags removes that frustration and unnecessary waste from your life for good!
I love using these because they are a conversation starter with the cashier. I love getting nerdy with sustainable products, and it is a way for me to educate others on the importance of not using so much plastic.
Wooden Utensils //
Utensils are not something normally thought of as toxic or wasteful, but let me give you some food for thought.
Plastic heated up leaches harmful chemicals to whatever it touches. Now think of that ground beef you’ve been browning in your skillet. Gross right?!

Subscription boxes are a controversial sustainable swaps topic, BUT this box is worth the mention. greenUP Box introduces you to sustainable swaps from all sorts of companies.
It includes things such as beeswax wraps, bamboo straws, and other swaps that are simple to incorporate within your normal routine.
I like the idea of gifting this box when you want to give something extra special to someone who is really interested in reducing the amount of plastic they have within their home. It is definitely a thoughtful option.
Makeup //
If you have read my post about sustainable beauty, you know this is one area I am working on currently. I have found a great option through Creek Baby for a lot of my needs.
The hardest part about beauty and makeup is the price for sustainable, organic makeup. I suggest Creek Baby due to their lower prices and quality, organic ingredients.
Even if someone uses conventional makeup, I don’t believe they will have a hard time transitioning to these organic products. At least, I didn’t have an issue with Creek Baby in particular.

Reusable Water Bottle //
Probably the biggest plastic waste on the Earth is plastic water bottles. It is unnecessary and easily preventable with a reusable water bottle.
The Welly Bottle is my go-to for recommending sustainable gifts because it is made of stainless steel and bamboo. While it is a little on the trendy side, I think it is a classic. It also holds a good amount of water without being too bulky.
