It’s time for the second update of the 30 Day Minimalist Decluttering Challenge! This was a challenging week for me.
I tried very hard to push my limits to get closer to my goal of feeling free of all the clutter. I found my true weaknesses became my motivation to make decisions about certain things.
This week was very insightful and I’m starting to see the transition of being conscious of what I own to a more mindful minimalist. I will write an additional post explaining this transition, but now it’s time to get into the weekly update!
Minimalist Decluttering Challenge: Week Two Update
Day 7: Accessories
Today was a blast! If you would have asked me a couple of years ago if I could believe my accessory collection would be so small, I would have said no way!
I used to have a jewelry cabinet FULL of jewelry! Since then I have dwindled down my collection considerably!
About three weeks ago, I decided it was time to let go of things I don’t wear. I was able to let go of almost a gallon size bag of jewelry.
Today, I was able to add to that bag. I let go of 3 pairs of earrings and a bracelet. I am debating the watches, because I don’t wear them. As of today, I am keeping them.
When it comes to scarves, gloves, and head accessories, I don’t have a whole lot of these. Again, I have let go of a few pieces a few weeks ago, but gave the collection a second look today.
I let go of a duplicate white scarf and black pair of gloves [only need one of each], a beanie, and headband. I only have one belt, and it needs replacing in the near future, but for now it stays.
In total, I let go of 4 items. Now I have 2 winter scarves, 4 light weight scarves, 3 pairs of gloves [red pair not pictures], 1 headband, and 1 beanie.
Day 8: Shoes
Ugh! This was a hard dose of reality to swallow. My shoe collection is not the biggest; however, it is not as small as I would like.
It was torture trying to decide what shoes I needed and what I could let go of. I really do wear all of them, but a couple of pairs had to go to make me feel like I accomplished anything today.
I decided my grey sweater boots could go, because to be honest, I think I’ve worn them maybe twice this season.
The only other pair of shoes I could part with was my high school cheer shoes. I’ve had them for 10 years, they are still in decent shape, but I don’t really need them anymore.
[Confession: Up until November 2015, I still wore my cheer shoes from 2002! Believe it or not they are still in excellent condition, and I wore them a lot. But it was time to let them go!]
I still have 4 pairs of tennis shoes, 1 pair of casual shoes, 2 pairs of heels, and 4 pairs of boots [Not pictured: mud boots].
In the next few months, I hope to replace my nude pair of wedge heels with a dressier pair of nude heels.
Day 9: Pamper Yourself
Today, I enjoyed a charcoal mask, cup of hot tea, and watched a few episodes of Gilmore Girls. It was nice to focus on letting go of stress.
Sometimes we loose focus on us, and don’t realize the harm it does. It is necessary to take time for yourself, and really enjoy it when you do.
Just for fun, I added a picture of me while enjoying my mask!
Day 10: Declutter 10 Items
Today I decided I would make some difficult decisions with decluttering certain things I was on the fence about.
I decided it was time for this Humpty Dumpty story to end. Let me say, it isn’t easy.
My 10 items consist of 2 watches, several charms for a bracelet [counted as 1 item], 1 beanie, 1 headband, 1 ring, 1 magazine, 1 old tortilla, 1 pair of sunglasses, and some old medicine [not pictured].
Day 11: Social Media
Today, I analyzed my use for each social media I am a member of. I asked myself if it would better me, inspire me, or benefit me in any way.
If the answer was yes, it stayed. If the answer was no, it went. I also looked at who I followed.
If they only brought negative emotions, out the door they went. If they made me happy they stayed.
Day 12: Find a product to use up
Today, I used up my favorite crock pot seasoning! I use it in 95% of the things I cook in my crock pot!
The meal today was a fabulous roast with cream of mushroom soup and dry onion soup mix! Yum!
Day 13: Pantry
The pantry was pretty easy. Since I have started menu planning, I haven’t bought a lot of extra or random things.
I stock up on things like mac-n-cheese, beans, and soup mixes. Everything else has a purpose for a specific meal.
Favorite Day: Day 9
Least Favorite Day: Day 8
Items Removed from Possession: 31!
Total Items Removed During Challenge: 56!
One Thing I Learned: If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t serve a purpose in your life. I had a beanie that didn’t fit, but didn’t know about it until a couple of years later. 1. It tells you I’ve never used it. 2. It tells you I never tried it on to begin with.
Coming Up Next Week in the Minimalist Decluttering Challenge…
I am really excited for next week! The only day I am not sure if I am looking forward to or not is waking up 30 minutes earlier. I can’t believe I’ve let go of 56 items already!
