Obviously, you want to learn about my quick morning cleaning routine, or you wouldn’t be here. So let me share with you the FOUR things I do each morning, plus some tips to make it even easier than it already is!
Oh, and I should inform you that it doesn’t matter if you have a family or live alone, work outside the home or at home. This morning cleaning routine works for everyone!
Make sure you read through to the end because the last tip is my favorite!
Things to do in a quick morning cleaning routine
I’ve tried many different routines over the year, and one thing I love about having a quick morning cleaning routine is that it only requires four things.
That’s right! If you do these four things daily, your home will be far easier to manage, which in general, makes life easier.
So let’s dive into the four things you need to do daily in your morning cleaning routine.

1 // Start a load of laundry
Getting your day started with washing a load of laundry really sets the tone for a great day!
Grab the largest load to wash first. This makes the biggest impact in seeing so much space free up and motivates you to keep going.
2 // Make the bed
If you’ve seen the 2014 University of Texas Commencement Address by US Navy Admiral William McRaven, then you know how important it is to make your bed every morning.
Starting the day off with a little pride for doing something that doesn’t seem important goes a long way.
It feels like when you make the bed you’ve suddenly cleaned your entire home because there is such a quick visual experience of a messy bed versus a tidy bed.
What’s even better is getting ready for sleep, and you are welcomed by a well-made bed.
3 // Empty the dishwasher
Throughout the day, it will be far easier to load dirty dishes into the dishwasher if it is empty. This keeps your home clutter-free throughout the day, which is far more pleasant than a sink full of dirty dishes.
4 // Tidy your home
Tidying your home is key to keeping your home a place of calm and peace.
Taking five to thirty minutes to tidy your home can make a massive difference in how your day goes, so finish off your quick morning cleaning routine by getting everything put back in its home.
Tips for a quick morning cleaning routine
Now that you know what you need to do every morning, I have some tips that will make a massive difference in your efforts to really cut down on morning cleaning.
1 // Declutter your home
I am being completely honest with you here. If your home is cluttered, it is nearly impossible to have a quick or easy cleaning routine.
The reason I know this routine is quick and includes only the necessary things to clean your home in the morning is that I make keeping my home clutter-free a priority, and you need to as well!
If you aren’t sure where to start, I have a FREE checklist that gives you 51 things you can declutter today and not miss! Fill out the below form to get your checklist now!
2 // Start the night before
There are a few things you can do the night before that make a big difference in your morning cleaning routine.
1 // Run the dishwasher at night – It not only saves energy, but it allows you to create a rhythm that works really well for ensuring you always have a clean sink and dishes.
2 // Go to bed with a clean kitchen – There isn’t a better feeling than going to bed with a clean kitchen. Something about it washes peace all through the home and allows for much better rest.
3 // Tidy your home – Do a quick tidy of your home before you go to bed, and there won’t be much left to do in the morning.
4 // Gather and prepare dirty laundry for the morning – This not only keeps smelly towels from stinking up the bathroom, but it makes starting a load of laundry in the morning automatic. The less you have to put effort and thought into your morning cleaning routine, the better!

3 // Wipe countertops as you go
I’m not talking about deep cleaning or even using an all-purpose cleaner, necessarily. I just mean wipe your countertops when you finish in that area.
For example, when you finish getting ready in the bathroom, take your washcloth, and wipe your sink and countertops. It just takes a couple of seconds and will go a long way in keeping your home clean and tidy.
The same goes for your kitchen. Wiping the countertops down after each time you cook or prepare a meal will help you keep your kitchen tidy and clean.
4 // Keep horizontal surfaces clutter-free
This tip is a game-changer for not just your morning cleaning routine but life in general!
The less you have on these surfaces, the faster it is to clean them, which means more time for things you enjoy.
5 // Hold everyone in your home responsible for their own mess
My parents never cleaned my room or collected my cups because I was responsible for that all on my own. It was smart of them to do this because they didn’t have to waste time dealing with my mess.
Honestly, if the people within your household are old enough to clean up after themselves, you should hold them responsible for it.
This dramatically cuts down on how much time you have to spend cleaning every day.
It may take a little training, but once they know their dirty dishes go in the sink or the dishwasher, you’ll be amazed at how helpful that is!
6 // Make your morning cleaning routine fun!
Yes! My favorite tip is to make it fun! Cleaning can be a big joy if you know how to make it fun for you!
I’ve got a few suggestions for you, too!
1 // Find some music that makes you want to move your body!
This is a small but exciting way to make cleaning fun. I love turning on music that makes me want to dance around my home, and I do so with a cleaning rag or two! 😉
2 // Challenge yourself!
How fast can you get through your morning cleaning routine? Well, you won’t know unless you try!
I’m not saying run out of breath or gasping for air to simply clean your home fast, but challenge yourself to get moving faster than normal.
Who knows, you may even get to say you’ve had your exercise in for the day after doing so!
3 // Get some motivation by watching someone else clean!
I’ll admit that there are days I don’t want to clean my home, but when I get motivation from someone on YouTube who posted a “clean with me” style video, I feel like I have a friend cheering me to get it done!
Here are a few playlists of YouTube ladies I enjoy cleaning my home in the mornings:
