For the longest time, I’ve wanted to switch to a menstrual cup but allowed myself to be intimidated by it. Well, not anymore! Today, I’m so excited to share with you a menstrual cup review and the starter kit that helped me make the transition.
I want to thank Pixie Cup for partnering with me for this switch because, without their starter kit, I wouldn’t have been as ready to try it.
What is a menstrual cup?
Healthline defines it as the following:
A menstrual cup is a type of reusable feminine hygiene product. It’s a small, flexible funnel-shaped cup made of rubber or silicone that you insert into your vagina to catch and collect period fluid.

Why would you want to use a menstrual cup?
There are many benefits to using a menstrual cup. Here are a few I chose to try the menstrual cup:
- It lasts up to ten years.
- It saves you a lot of money in the long run.
- A menstrual cup doesn’t include harmful chemicals like conventional tampons.
- It is better for the environment.
- I don’t have to worry about having tampons in stock. I’ll always have the menstrual cup when I need it.
- They are more comfortable than tampons.
A menstrual cup is safer for your body compared to tampons. Even organic cotton tampons can leave residue behind.
Since menstrual cups can last up to ten years with proper care, you’re saving a lot of money and tampons from entering septic systems or landfills.
Not only does it feel good to save money and be more eco-friendly, but it is also more comfortable to wear. I almost forgot it was in there until I was getting ready to go to bed and remembered to take it out.
Menstrual Cup Review – Why I Chose the Pixie Cup Starter Kit
After researching for days to decide on which menstrual cup to try, I came across Pixie Cup’s About Me Page, which included the following:
We find our inspiration from Acts 20:35: “…It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

I knew right then and there that I wanted to try and do a menstrual cup review on the Pixie Cup.
Honestly, my gut instinct was right because I honestly am in love with the Pixie Cup!
Before I get into specifics about my experience, let me share what is in the Pixie Cup Starter Kit.
1 // Both small and large Pixie Cups
This was a must for me because I’m right around the age that you should switch sizes of cups. Since I have yet to have children, it seemed a bit confusing as to which one to pick.
Since the kit includes both sizes, I can wear whichever size I want to see how it works for me.
2 // Two drawstring bags
These bags are cute, and I love the color coordination with the cups. They are also discrete, so if you know you’re about to start your period, you can toss it in your purse and be covered.
3 // Cleaning wash for your cup
Including a cleansing wash for the cup is helpful for getting started because you have what you need on hand as you adjust to using a reusable product over a disposable one.
I wouldn’t say this is always needed because any mild soap works. However, I like that they include this in the kit for peace of mind when cleaning your cup.
4 // Lubricant for insertion
I think this is genius to include in the Pixie Cup Starter Kit because insertion isn’t always easy. This is another peace-of-mind item that will help new menstrual cup users like myself adjust.
5 // Individually wrapped wipes
These are definitely helpful when you aren’t at home, but I honestly haven’t had a reason to use them yet.
I work from home, so dumping and cleaning my menstrual cup is typically pretty easy.
6 // Sterilizer container
This container is collapsible, which I appreciate as someone who likes to have things put away easily.
At first, I wasn’t sure if I would like this container, but knowing that I have a separate container – aside from any of my cookware that can sanitize it – actually makes me feel cleaner.
7 // Instructions for everything!
One thing I love about the Pixie Cup Starter Kit is that it includes instructions in the coolest places!
The sterilizer container has its instructions on the outside of the container’s box.
My Pixie Cup Menstrual Cup & Pixie Cup Starter Kit Review
Overall, I’m so happy I chose the Pixie Cup Menstrual Cup! It is a softer cup that is pretty easy to insert.
The first time inserting it was super easy, which honestly made me doubt that I had it in properly, but it never leaked!
I found the punch-down fold to work best for me. There are other folds you can do, but this one inserted and popped open the easiest for me.
The small cup went pretty far in, so the larger cup is definitely the size for me. However, if I am having a sensitive day, I know I can use the small cup with no problems.
My thoughts about the starter kit revert to the idea that they have thought of everything a new menstrual cup user would need to be comfortable transitioning to a reusable period product.
The starter kit box and all the packaging is cardboard or paper, so I’m really thankful for that. There are several bottles that are plastic, but the good news is that I can reuse them!
Honestly, I feel like Pixie Cup checks all the boxes with their Pixie Cup Starter Kit.
I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a healthier, money-saving period product option.
Pair them with a Pixie Cup pad or period panties, and you’re good to go!

Final thoughts
I thought using a menstrual cup was going to be more difficult than it actually was. The truth is that it is fairly easy!
If you’re ready to give a menstrual cup a try, I highly recommend the Pixie Cup Starter Kit because it honestly has everything you could ever need to make the transition.
For the price of two cups and everything the kit includes, it will take less than a year to break even with your investment. Since it lasts for up to 10 years, you’ll be saving money for over 9 years!
Exciting, isn’t it?!
While there are a lot of menstrual cups on the market, Pixie Cup was the only one I found to have thought about the transition their customer would face and created a kit around that experience.
Also, I love that they share the same Christian values that I do, which is why I had to try their menstrual cup and do a menstrual cup review for you.
Let me know if you’re going to make the transition with me, or if you already have, below in the comments! I’d love to answer any questions you may have or chat about creating a more sustainable period.
