When you come home at the end of a long workday, the last thing you want to feel is stressed in your own home, which is why I’m going to show you how to reduce stress at home with a few routines.
The last thing you want or deserve to feel after being away from your home all day is stress. You should actually feel calm, at peace, and most importantly welcomed by your own home.
The beautiful thing about creating a welcoming environment within your home is that it is SIMPLE to do, so let’s get into the routines!
How to Reduce Stress at Home with 5 Simple routines
Before we dive into how to reduce stress at home, I want to make sure you understand something. You have to work at filling your cup of self-love before you can see outwardly at what is actually creating stress within your home.
So these routines aren’t your average “systems” approach. I’ve incorporated self-love into each and every one of them.
Don’t worry! They are still very simple and easy to accomplish. However, with this particular approach, you’ll find you love your home even more than you thought possible.
Self-Care Routine //
How to reduce stress at home all starts with a self-care routine that fills your cup and nurtures your soul. You should practice one thing each day that fills your cup.
It doesn’t matter if it takes 5 minutes or an hour of your time. Do something that makes you feel refreshed. Here are a few ideas if you need some:
- Read a book
- Make a special beverage [my favorite is Numi Organic Jasmine Green Tea]
- Go to bed 30 minutes early
- Move your body by doing yoga or going for a walk
- Take a bubble bath
- Journal for 15 minutes about how blessed you are

Cleaning Routine //
When you set up a cleaning routine that makes all the cleaning tasks second nature, you really reduce your stress. It removes the hesitation or dreadful feeling of cleaning your home.
It takes less than 30 minutes a day to keep a home clean, which is great if you normally spend the majority of one of your off days to clean your entire home.
By doing something each day to keep your home clean, you are creating cleaning habits that work subconsciously, which means less thinking about them.

Decluttering Routine //
The things you own not only take up physical space, but they also take up mental space. By having a decluttering routine, you easily combat the overwhelming feeling that creeps up when you accumulate too much.
Decluttering is a process, which is why having a decluttering routine is necessary. The more consistent you are with it, the better.
Morning Routine //
Knowing how to reduce stress at home may start with a self-care routine, but a consistent morning routine is a close second.
By establishing your mindset for each day, you give yourself power. I know that may sound a bit weird, so let me walk you through two morning routines and you tell me which you prefer.
Morning Routine #1 //
- The alarm goes off and you hit snooze one too many times.
- You rush to make your coffee, shower and get dressed.
- There isn’t any time for makeup, so you take it with you to work.
- You make your coffee and run out the door.
- On the way to work, you stress about being late and drive like a crazy person, promising tomorrow will be different.
Morning Routine #2 //
- The alarm goes off and you get out of bed.
- You take your time making coffee and enjoy your shower.
- You get dressed and put on makeup, realizing you still have a bit of time before you need to leave.
- So you decide to enjoy some breakfast and spend a few minutes reading.
- You leave for work and enjoy the drive.

Evening Routine //
An evening routine is just as important as a morning routine. This is where you can squeeze in an extra self-care moment or two to help you have a restful sleep, which is why evening routines are my favorite!
They help you establish your mindset for going to sleep and how the next day will unfold. Here are a few things I do each evening to help my mind relax:
- Name 3 good things that happened that day
- Decide what I’m going to wear for the next day
- Wash my face and enjoy a face mask
- Write out my to-do list for the next day
An evening routine doesn’t need to be extensive. Its purpose is to help you go to bed peacefully so that you can rest well, which is how to reduce stress at home in a very nurturing way.
With these five routines, reducing stress at home is simple. It just takes a little intention and thought. After a while, these things will become habits, which is the key on how to reduce stress at home.
Trust me, I used to struggle with feeling at home within my home. I was always stressed and overwhelmed with it. However, once I implemented each of these routines, things improved dramatically.
