If you are a long time fan of this blog, you know that The Hunger Games book series was the trigger for starting this blog. Today, I am collaborating with a couple of blog friends to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the first book’s release. Each of us are celebrating by focusing on what we believe our strengths are in this world. Mine happens to be all about survival kit essentials.

I am a minimalist/homesteader that focuses on living with essentials, and what better way to utilize these essentials than with a very much needed survivor kit?

The focus for this post is going to be what I consider to be essential to survive the Hunger Games, and I am basing it off what Katniss used throughout the series. Let’s get into this, shall we?

Be sure to stick around to the end, because I am sharing links to my blog friends’ posts, too!

The Hunger Games is one of my favorite series! It only feels right to celebrate the 10th Anniversary with this fun blog post about survivor kit essentials!

The Hunger Games Survival Kit Essentials

1 // Backpack

Of course, each survival kit needs a backpack to store all the things inside of and make it easier for carrying everything. The better the quality of a backpack, the more versatile it can be for everything we need to put in it.

2 // Weapon

To survive the Hunger Games, you will inevitably need a weapon of choice, unless you plan to hide the entire game [No shame in that! It’s a special skill for sure!]. However, most of us do not possess the ability to camouflage ourselves into the scene, so choosing something like a bow and arrow, sword, or what have you is essential.

3 // Knife

A small knife can be a great tool when you are in survival mode. It can help you make shelters, traps for animals [or people], chop down a branch, or really whatever you need it for. The versatility of a knife is definitely an essential when trying to survive.

4 // Wire

Wires are great for setting traps. They help you with not having to work as hard to protect yourself or gather food. While other methods and things can be used for these things, a small wire does not weigh much, so I am considering it essential.

5 // Water Canteen

Of course, you have to stay hydrated. Having a water canteen to fill as you come to a water source is 100% necessary.

6 // First Aid Supplies

How many times have you been in the woods and hurt yourself? Probably a few, right? Well having a first aid kit will help you heal while in the woods and help prevent any infections from forming.

Ointments, bandages, some type of medication for pain, and a needle and thread for stitching wounds are the least that I would have on hand.

7 // Rain Coat

You want to avoid getting soaked, so having a rain coat is a must. Hypothermia can set in within a matter of hours or even minutes. Staying as dry as possible is relevant for surviving.

8 // Rope

Want to climb a tree for shelter and hoist your back pack to you? Ropes are very useful and can be used in many ways. Having at least one lightweight rope can save you from falling out of a tree.

9 // Fire Starter

Cooking your prey, trying to keep warm, or both? A fire is always essential for these things, but to start one, a fire starter maybe necessary. While it is possible to start a fire without this tool, it makes life much easier. I consider it necessary, because when looking at its overall weight, it does not add enough to consider leaving it at home.

I am still blown away with the thought that The Hunger Games is officially celebrating its 10th anniversary today! If you enjoyed this post, be sure to check out my friends’ posts:

Yes ma’am! I was a closet book review blogger before starting this space. It was the series that opened the door to so many opportunities.
