Week Two’s Tasks Review
- Clear all contents from the foyer/mudroom and put everything in its proper location.
- Deep clean the foyer/mudroom after removing everything. [Do not forget the baseboards!]
- Catch up on all laundry. This includes folding/hanging it and putting it where it goes.
- Clear out and declutter all items in laundry room cabinets and/or shelves.
- Deep clean cabinets and/or shelves in laundry room. Then organize all products into the cabinets and/or shelves.
- Clear out and declutter everything in your bathroom cabinets, including linens, face and hair products, samples, and cleaning supplies [if you keep any in the bathroom].
- Deep clean EVERYTHING in the bathroom, including countertops, cabinets, shelves, toilet, and shower/bathtub.
- Put everything you are keeping in your bathroom back into the desired location to have an organized, and functional bathroom!

How I did with each task.
- Cleared it out and actually found my gardening shoes! [Winning!]
- Clean and clear!
- Laundry is something I do not let accumulate. This is mostly to do with having less than 40 items of clothing, not counting sleepwear. I caught up on this, washed our bed sheets, bath mats, shower curtain, and regular curtains. Now everything feels clean!
- I have one small shelf for our laundry products, so I did remove a couple of things. I used up a laundry detergent bottle, so I removed it. From there, I organized my products according to necessity. For instance, my detergent is closest to the washing machine, then vinegar (I use this as a fabric softener), a backup detergent that I make myself if I am ever in a bind, our hunting detergent, and tennis balls for when I wash our pillows. One thing I want to do with this space is make it prettier. I want to paint the shelf and find prettier containers for my detergents and fabric softener. One reason I have not done this already is because I am trying to find a laundry detergent that my husband and I both agree in using. So far we have not had any luck on agreeing…
- Since I do not have much of a laundry room, I decided to tackle my cleaning supplies. I decided to let go of the Borax and Washing Soda, since I no longer make my own laundry detergent. I also let go of the Febreeze. The Swiffer duster box [pictured below] contains an off brand version of this product that does not work like the real Swiffer dusters, so I let them go as well. The Zote soap is actually something my husband uses, so it was relocated to his shop. Then I had an extra spray bottle I did not need. I kept my Thieve All-Purpose cleaner, Dr. Bronner’s soap, glass cleaner, vinegar, Dawn dish soap, floor cleaner, BBQ cleaner, and of course, Baking Soda! A year ago, I had so many cleaners with harmful chemicals. Now as I look at my cleaning supplies, I am very pleased with my progress. I love not having an entire cabinet dedicated to my cleaning products, as I have in the past.
- Decluttering my bathroom went better than I had thought it would. I let go of over 100 bobby pins, a brush and some worn out hair bands, an empty shampoo bottle, dry shampoo that did not work for my hair, old makeup I no longer used, new makeup that I would not use, and a couple of skin care products.
- Deep cleaning my bathroom was a lot of work! I am going to tell on myself a little bit… One thing I despise having to clean is my shower. I normally give it a good scrub on a regular basis, but really deep cleaning it, not so much. I really took my time cleaning it as best as I could. Baking soda was my best friend when trying to get through the hard water that had built up in some areas. Now my shower looks better than new! After I finished deep cleaning the shower, the rest of my bathroom went pretty quick.
- My bathroom is another area that I need to focus on prettier organization. If you have followed my blog for a while, you have probably seen my shelving unit a few times. I purposefully ignored the fact that this has been a functional storage space versus a pretty storage space for a few reasons. One of these reasons is due to downsizing and working through what we have. I used to coupon, so I have a lot of a few things we need to use. Second, I wanted to have time to discover what I needed. After a year, I have a pretty good idea of what we need, so now I want to focus on pleasing my eyes when I look at this space. The storage space under my bathroom sink needs a little help as well. I plan to search for either a shelf that will fit in it, or possibly a few containers. Pinterest will soon be my best friend when it comes to finding inspiration for these two spaces.
Hardest Part: Decluttering my makeup and skin care.
Easiest Part: Cleaning up my laundry space and foyer/mudroom.

2017 Declutter Challenge: Week Three
This week is a week many of you have probably been waiting to do. This week is all about the bedrooms!
The bedroom is a special place in a home, but is often treated as any other space in the home. A bedroom should be a space that feels cozy, relaxing, and peaceful.
A bedroom should not be full of things that make you think about cleaning, organizing, or anything else beside bedroom things.
This week we are going to tackle everything within the bedrooms in our home, including our dresser, nightstand, closet, and under the bed! We are going to create a place that is serene, calming, and organized!
We are going to turn our Master Bedroom into our sanctuary, our guest bedroom into a hotel inspired space, and every child’s bedroom into a room they can rejuvenate for the next day.
Our work is definitely cut out for us, but we are getting that much closer to being finished with decluttering for 2017! I promise, this week will not be as difficult as the past two weeks, as long as you follow my tasks and guidelines!
Before you get started….
As always, I want you to close your eyes and envision what these areas would look like in your dreams. Think about what attracts you to a master bedroom. Think about what kind of guest room you would personally like to stay.
Then think about what you would like your child[ren]‘s bedroom to look like. What all do you need to remove, organize, or refresh?
My perfect bedroom [or guest room] is light and airy feeling. Very few things on the walls, so that my eyes are able to rest. My night stand includes a lamp and possibly one other item.
When I look at the bed, specifically, I envision a fluffy comforter, cozy throw blanket and pillows, and maybe a warm rug to the side for when I roll out of bed in the morning.
All I can think is how at peace I am when I enter this space.
Week Three Tasks
- Remove anything from your Master Bedroom that does not belong in it, and find a proper home for it.
- Pull everything out from your closet and put it on the bed. Sort through each piece, decide whether to keep/toss/donate, and only add pieces back into your closet that are in your keep pile. If you have a maybe pile, sort through it again and determine each piece’s outcome.
- Remove everything from your dresser drawers and put it all on the bed. Repeat the same process as you did for step 2.
- Pull out anything from under the bed, declutter, put in a proper home, and if under the bed is its proper home, return it.
- Declutter your nightstands. You do not need random things within your nightstand. Be intentional.
- Declutter your child[ren]’s room. Be sure to sort through toys, clothes, and/or anything else they have in their room.
- Declutter and refresh your guest bedroom.
- Put your focus this week mostly on your bedroom. We want to create an oasis, so take your time decluttering in your space.
- When sorting through your wardrobe, be honest with yourself. You only wear 20% of the clothes you own 80% of the time. No you do not need an item you are second guessing.
- When sorting through your under garments, toss anything with holes or tears in them. You deserve better than that!
- Your nightstand does not need random things in it. Only keep necessities, such as lotions, a book, alarm clock, and/or candle. Everything else needs a new home.
- When you finish decluttering your bedroom, ask yourself if it feels like you envisioned. If not, take the necessary steps to get it there. Do not finish this week with a half finished master bedroom! You deserve a space you feel relaxed, calm, peaceful, and cozy. Make it you goal to accomplish this, this very week! Do not hold off any longer!
- For your child[ren]’s toys, discard anything they no longer play with, that is broken, or they no longer want.
- Do not be afraid to include your child[ren]. Explain to them that less fortunate children will have a chance to play with toys they no longer want. Let them be part of this process. They may let go of more than you think!
- For your child[ren]’s clothes, remove anything that no longer fits or has holes.
- The guest bedroom should feel welcoming for your guests. Include a few magazines or books in this room, along with a candle or diffuser to freshen the room, and ease of access for a cell phone charger.
- The guest bedroom should be ready at anytime for a guest, but please remember to freshen it up so that your guest cannot tell that it has been ready for them since the last time they might have visited.
- Remove anything from the guest bedroom that you would not want your guests to have access. This can include things such as a DIY project you may be working on, cleaning supplies [what guest wants to clean?], or anything that is supposed to be in storage and ended up in the guest bedroom.
I realize for some this week is going to flow through this easily, while others find this very difficult to accomplish. If you are one who finds this difficult to accomplish, please do your best to push through and get it done!
You will love the end result of this week! Tackle one of these steps each day, and you will get there.
